Richard McKay served two years as Music Director and conductor of the University of Texas University Orchestra, during which time the ensemble grew in size from 35 active musicians to well over 90, drawing advanced musicians and enhancing it concert offerings. The University of Texas University Orchestra (UTUO) is UT Austin’s campus-wide orchestra, drawing its membership from throughout the university community, including music majors.

The orchestra twice weekly and performs a diverse selection of repertoire drawn from over 350 years of symphonic literature. Each year, UTUO performs four concerts and often features guest artists. The orchestra serves as just one of the Butler School of Music’s many outlets for both majors and non-music majors to continue and cultivate their devotion to the musical arts.
