The theme is dispensed in lush harmonies drawing on Korngold’s years as one of Hollywood’s busiest, and best, movie-music composers. Succeeding variations alternate between scurrying scherzos and more pensive music, with an aptly enthusiastic finale. McKay shaped the romantic music quite warmly and kept quicker sections on their toes.
